Success in the BATSS webinar with EU-INGENIOuS cluster

BATSS project is part of the EU-INGENIOuS Battery Cluster, a joint European initiative joining together EXTENDED, NEXTBAT, TEMPEST and VERSAPRINT, leading European research projects dedicated to advancing next-generation battery technologies. The Cluster is collaborating closely through a variety of activities, booths, events, including a series of thematic webinars designed to share knowledge, foster synergies, and accelerate innovation across the European battery landscape.

This time, on 24 March 2026, BATSS hosted a dedicated webinar on “Modelling and Simulation approaches for battery pack design optimisation” which attracted 33 participants from research organisations, academia, and industry. Experts from each joined the discussions from top leading experts of each of the sister projects provided insights into the latest advances, key advantages, and emerging results related to battery system modelling and simulation, as well as practical validation strategies.

Iosu Cendoya from CIDETEC, our project coordinator moderated the session, with support from LOMARTOV, BATSS’ D&C leaders. Top researchers representing each of the EU-INGENIOuS projects contributed to the discussion:

  • BATSS project: Stéphane Chevillard, IFP Energies Nouvelles
  • EXTENDED project: Carlos Micó, Polytechnic University of Valencia
  • NEXTBAT project: Arash Moaven, Barcelona Supercomputing Center
  • TEMPEST project: Katerina Fragiadaki, University of Patras
  • VERSAPRINT project: Felix Elsner, RWTH Aachen University

The webinar highlighted how innovations in battery system design, supported by advanced systems, simulations, and modelling approaches, are helping to develop more efficient battery modules and packs. These pathways enable the prediction and management of several factors, such as heat/cooling resistance, gas combustion risks, while being validated through both simulations and real-world experimental testing, significantly enhancing both safety and performance in battery technology.
