CIDETEC presents BATSS at the 8th European Conference of the Prognostics and Health Management Society 2024

We are delighted to announce that BATSS was recently presented at the 8th European Conference of the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) Society, held from July 3rd to July 5th, 2024, in Prague, Czech Republic. The conference, renowned for its emphasis on innovative health management techniques, invited participants to present their papers and posters. Our partners from CIDETEC Energy Storage decided to contribute with an oral presentation and a proceeding related to the BATSS project’s activities.

The presented proceeding, entitled “Comparison among Machine Learning Models Applied in Lithium-ion Battery Internal Short Circuit Detection“, showcased promising contributions to the field and it is included in Vol. 8 No. 1 (2024): Proceedings of the European Conference of the PHM Society 2024.

During the event, Dr Mikel Arrinda, Battery Diagnosis Team Leader at CIDETEC Energy Storage, presented groundbreaking work on internal short circuit detection, a critical aspect of the BATSS project’s aim to implement internal impedance trackers. Dr Arrinda’s presentation highlighted the comparative analysis of various machine learning methods to detect internal resistance, specifically short circuit resistance.

The presentation and paper provided valuable insights into the process of developing a machine-learning model for internal short circuit detection. Dr Arrinda discussed the lessons learnt during the development phase and presented evaluation results of different algorithms. These results included the maximum detectable internal short circuit resistance, which will serve as a threshold for future advancements in internal short circuit detection algorithms and tools within the BATSS project.

CIDETEC’s participation underscored the collaborative efforts and innovative strides being made in the BATSS project, aiming to enhance battery safety and performance through advanced diagnostics and health management technologies. We are proud of CIDETEC Energy Storage’s contribution and look forward to the continued development and application of these novel methods.

Stay tuned for more updates as we progress in our mission to transform battery technology.
