On 14-15 December 2025, the BATSS project was spotlighted by our partners at IFP Energies Nouvelles (IFPEN) during the 10th Engine Combustion Network (ECN) Workshop, an international event hosted at Chiba University, Japan.
The ECN is a global collaboration of experimental and computational researchers dedicated to advancing engine combustion science. This edition placed particular emphasis on open scientific collaboration, showcasing ongoing work across a range of fields, including battery safety and thermal runaway.
During their presentation, IFPEN showcased the BATSS project as a key initiative contributing to the development of standardised experiments, advanced modelling, and improved understanding of thermal runaway and venting phenomena. These activities support the progress of next‑generation high‑performance, long‑lifetime battery chemistries.
The BATSS intervention sparked new discussions with local stakeholders and strengthened the project’s visibility within international and Europe’s battery and automotive innovation ecosystems.
Further details, including presentation materials and recordings from the ECN Workshop, are available on the event’s official website.

Many thanks to our partners for showcasing BATSS in such a relevant and internationally recognised network. Their contribution plays a crucial role in elevating the project’s impact and fostering collaboration across the global research community.
Stay tuned for more updates as BATSS continues advancing battery safety science and engaging with stakeholders worldwide.
