The RTR Conference 2025, held on February 11–13 in Brussels, provided a key platform to highlight the latest breakthroughs in EU-funded road transport research. As one of the most significant events in the field, the conference brought together industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to explore Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects’ results, impacts, and future directions.
BATSS took the stage as part of the ‘High-performance and safe-by-design next-generation battery systems for road transport applications’ session, alongside fellow projects from the EU-INGENIOuS Cluster: EXTENDED, NEXTBAT, TEMPEST, and VERSAPRINT. The session was moderated by Martha Gialampouki from CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency and Manasa Sridhar from Iveco Group, Executive Board member at BEPA.
Representing BATSS, Iosu Cendoya from CIDETEC Energy Storage presented the project’s efforts in developing a safe and efficient battery system based on cutting-edge cell technology. The session offered valuable insights into how BATSS is tackling key challenges in battery safety, performance, and sustainability, contributing to Europe’s ambition for a greener and more competitive battery industry.

The session also featured key presentations from the EU-INGENIOuS cluster, highlighting the diverse approaches to enhancing battery technology:
- EXTENDED – Maximilian Mellin showcased advancements in multifunctional, modular, and scalable semi-solid-state battery systems.
- NEXTBAT – Mikko Pihlatie outlined efforts in developing the safest and most sustainable battery systems, addressing electrical, thermal, and mechanical safety.
- TEMPEST – Jeremy Warren discussed innovations in multiple-architecture battery packs for industrial applications.
- VERSAPRINT – Lisa-lou Gracia presented versatile printed solutions for safer and high-performance battery systems.
The session at the RTR Conference 2025 reinforced the importance of collaboration in pushing the boundaries of battery technology. By bringing together cutting-edge projects under the EU-INGENIOuS umbrella, BATSS, and its sister projects are collectively driving safer, more efficient, and sustainable energy solutions for the future of transport.
Stay tuned for more updates on BATSS and its role in shaping the next generation of battery technology!
